Capturing UC Davis Impact Beyond Campus

The University of California Public Engagement (UCPE) database houses information about publicly engaged and/or publicly impactful programs and opportunities administered by UC Davis. The data collected will better enable UC Davis to demonstrate and visualize impact in local communities throughout the state and beyond on an ongoing basis. By using this centralized repository, information collection is standardized to improve the integrity of data —resulting in robust data that can serve multiple needs, from institutional analysis and reporting to award and grant applications and more.

Get Started

The University of California Public Engagement (UCPE) database collects information about public engagement activities done in partnership with the community or providing expertise, resources, or services to or for the community. Anyone can browse the information collected through the Public Engagement Portal.

About UCPE

The About UCPE document is a one-page overview on the University of California Public Engagement (UCPE) database, featuring its goals, uses, other resources, and contact information.

What does that mean?

Not sure what the terms used in the database and portal mean? We’ve defined them all for you.

How do I enter data?

We’ve created a step-by-step guide with details instructions about how to enter your engagement activities.

What data do we collect?

We collect data related to programs, opportunities, and people, including but not limited to:

  • The UC Davis college/school/department/unit leading the program
  • The type of program/opportunity (e.g. grant/award, sponsorship/partnership, course, etc.)
  • The focus of the program/opportunity (e.g. social justice, education, agriculture)
  • A brief description and related website
  • Location and contact information

You can get a better sense of all the information we collect by taking a look at the database. Please note, any personal contact information collected (e.g. submitter information) is for internal tracking and will be kept confidential. 

Why do we collect it?

  • Some of the information entered into the database will display in the Public Engagement Portal, which allows the public to browse and connect with these programs, opportunities, and people.
  • The data is shared with the UC Office of the President for inclusion in the UC Accountability Report, which provides an annual comprehensive assessment of the University's progress in meeting key teaching, research and public service goals across its 10 campuses 
  • The information entered will also be used when UC Davis applies for renewal of the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, an elective designation that indicates an institutional commitment to community engagement by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. 

How do we collect it?

We encourage you to contribute to the University of California Public Engagement Database by sharing your personal or programmatic information. To access this database, you must be affiliated with the University of California, Davis and enter your user credentials with your Kerberos ID and Kerberos passphrase. Our how-to guide gives you a step-by-step overview of how to add or edit a program/opportunity.

Is there anything else I should know?

  • We have included a definitions page to explain the different terms and fields used within the database.
  • There may be some program/opportunity types or categories that overlap or are difficult to differentiate; please use your best judgment.
  • Our database evolves and improves based on user feedback, which we encourage you to contact us.
